I remember the night that I decided to heal my grief. It was one of those nights that started with sobbing. Each moment getting deeper into my grief, my only focus was on how much I missed my son. The feeling was so strong that I felt my heart was going to stop…and then I thought of my son.What if he was there with me? What if he was able to feel what I was feeling? What if I was hurting him (with my pain and sorrow)? And what if my heart did stop? What would that do to my mother and my family? They didn’t deserve a double-tragedy. In that moment I decided that I would find a way to heal my heartbreak. And…my heart started to beat at a normal rate, my breathing started to flow and I felt the release that I needed to fall asleep. The next day, I started taking actions towards my healing process. I started meditation, working out at the local gym and signed up for Art classes at a local studio. Drawing was always a dream of mine and I saw this as a chance to make it a reality. And above all of these actions, I gradually learned to open my heart to give and receive the love that I had stored in it for my son. Wherever you are with your grief at this moment, it is the right place to be. Just know that you have the power to heal your sadness and sorrow at any moment. Healing can take place to mend your broken heart and to fill that big gap in your soul. Possibilities are waiting to open up for you when your focus shifts to living instead of on dying. By healing the source of your painful thought, you can alleviate the pain of it and replace it with a positive thought or action. Distant Reiki is a powerful way to share the healing energy of Reiki without being in the same space with the client. To understand this, we must first recognize that we are more than just our physical bodies. We are beings of energy, and our energy fields extend far beyond what we can see or touch, much like the illustration on the right. This expansive field connects each of us to the broader population, creating a web of energetic interactions. Reiki, which means Universal Life Force Energy, offers healing that transcends both time and space. As Reiki practitioners progress, they undergo various levels of attunement. At the second level, we learn to send healing energy over distances using specific Reiki symbols. This technique was established by Mikao Usui (臼井甕男 or Usui Sensei), the founder of Usui Reiki Ryoho. In March 1922, during meditation on the sacred mountain Kurama Yama, north of Kyoto, he received three powerful symbols. These symbols have been utilized by Reiki practitioners ever since to send energy both in person and remotely. Distant Reiki sessions can be remarkably effective, sometimes even more so than in-person sessions. To understand how sending energy to someone from a distant is even possible, we need to realize that we are not just bodies that we can see and touch.
